【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandardspecifiestheOpenFontFormat(OFF)specification,theTrueType?1)andCompactFontFormat(CFF)outlineformats,andtheTrueTypehintinglanguage.ManyreferencestobothTrueTypeandPostScript?2)existthroughoutthisdocument,asOpenFontFormatfontscombinethetwotechnologies.NOTEThisInternationalStandardisbasedontheOpenType?3)version1.4fontformatspecification,andistechnicallyequivalenttothatspecification.Multimediaapplicationsrequireabroadrangeofmedia-relatedstandards.Inadditiontothetypicalaudioandvideoapplications,multimediapresentationsincludescalable2Dgraphicsandtextsupportingalllanguagesoftheworld.Faithfulreproductionofscalablemultimediacontentrequiresadditionalcomponentsincludingscalablefonttechnology.TheOpenFontFormatisanextensionoftheTrueTypefontformat,addingsupportforPostScriptfontdata.OFFfontsandtheoperatingsystemserviceswhichsupportOFFfontsprovideuserswithasimplewaytoinstallandusefonts,whetherthefontscontainTrueTypeoutlinesorCFF(PostScript)outlines.TheOpenFontFormataddressesthefollowinggoals:-broadermulti-platformsupport;-excellentsupportforinternationalcharactersets;-excellentprotectionforfontdata;-smallerfilesizestomakefontdistributionmoreefficient;-excellentsupportforadvancedtypographiccontrol.PostScriptdataincludedinOFFfontsmaybedirectlyrasterizedorconvertedtotheTrueTypeoutlineformatforrendering,dependingonwhichrasterizershavebeeninstalledinthehostoperatingsystem.Buttheusermodelisthesame:OFFfontsjustwork.UserswillnotneedtobeawareofthetypeofoutlinedatainOFFfonts.Andfontcreatorscanusewhicheveroutlineformattheyfeelprovidesthebestsetoffeaturesfortheirwork,withoutworryingaboutlimitingafont'susability.OFFfontscanincludetheOFFLayouttables,whichallowfontcreatorstodesignbroaderinternationalandhigh-endtypographicfonts.TheOFFLayouttablescontaininformationonglyphsubstitution,glyphpositioning,justificationandbaselinepositioning,enablingtext-processingapplicationstoimprovetextlayout.AswithTrueTypefonts,OFFfontsallowthehandlingoflargeglyphsetsusingUnicodeencoding.Suchencodingallowsbroadinternationalsupport,aswellassupportfortypographicglyphvariants.Additionally,OFFfontsmaycontaindigitalsignatures,whichallowoperatingsystemsandbrowsingapplicationstoidentifythesourceandintegrityoffontfiles,includingembeddedfontfilesobtainedinwebdocuments,beforeusingthem.Also,fontdeveloperscanencodeembeddingrestrictionsinOFFfontswhichcannotbealteredinafontsignedbythedeveloper.
