【摘要】:Thispracticeemploystheuseofnormal-incident,orstraightbeam,longitudinalwaveultrasoundforthedetectionandevaluationofdiscontinuitiesinmaterialsrequiringvolumetricexamination.Althoughnotallrequirementsofthispracticecanbeapplieduniversallytoallinspectionsituationsandmaterials,itdoesprovidethebasisforestablishingcontractualcriteriabetweensuppliersandpurchasersofmaterialsforperformingcontactlongitudinalwavepulse-echoexaminationandmaybeusedasaguideforwritingdetailedproceduresforparticularapplications.Typesofinformationthatmaybeobtainedfromthepulsed-echostraight-beampracticeareasfollows:Apparentdiscontinuitysize(seeNote1)bycomparisonofthesignalamplitudesfromthetestpiecetotheamplitudesobtainedfromareferencestandard.DepthlocationofdiscontinuitiesbycalibratingthehorizontalscaleoftheA-scandisplay.Materialpropertiesasindicatedbytherelativesoundattenuationorvelocitychangesofcompareditems.Theextentofbondandunbond(orfusionandlackoffusion)betweentwoultrasonicconductingmaterialsifgeometryandmaterialspermit.Note18212;Thetermx201C;apparentx201D;isemphasizedsincetruesizedependsonorientation,composition,andgeometryofthediscontinuityandequipmentlimitations.1.1Thispracticecoversultrasonicexaminationofmaterialsbythepulse-echomethodusingstraight-beamlongitudinalwavesintroducedbydirectcontactofthesearchunitwiththematerialbeingexamined.1.2Thispracticeshallbeapplicabletodevelopmentofanexaminationprocedureagreeduponbytheusersofthedocument.1.3Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
